Zambia Nurses Association (ZNA) is a professional, non-governmental and non-partisan organization that was founded in 1950. The Association acclaimed its legal existence in 1953 following its registration by the Zambian Registrar of societies and in the same year it was affiliated to the International Council of Nurses (ICN) giving it an international recognition.
ZNA has operational organizational structures covering the whole country, thus national, provincial and branch/workplace levels. This coverage enables the Association cater for all its members irrespective of where they may be.
VISION
To have an empowered nurse who is motivated and able to continuously uphold professional excellence.
PURPOSE
The purpose of ZNA is to protect and promote the interests of nurses and midwives. It is also a medium through which nurses can promote their individual and professional development, thereby contributing to the delivery of quality health care services.
FUNCTIONS
Zambia Nurses Association is mandated through its constitution to execute the following;
i. Foster a spirit of unity and solidarity among the members [nurses]
ii. To promote the highest professional standards of members [nurses] in the delivery of health care services by taking necessary steps to further their knowledge, education and experiences.
iii. To assist members improve their professional, social and economic position in Zambia
iv. To ensure nurses participate in health and social policy formulation
v. Provide professional advise to government other stake holders on both policy and non-policy matters affecting nurses and public health as a whole
vi. Provide and disseminate information on professional and other matters and act as a medium for free exchange of opinions
vii. Mobilize resources to enable implementation of programmes to the benefit of members and the community.
